NetXchequer is the name of ACT´s accounting and billing server.
Its main functions are to control access to information to only those pre-authorized
to use it, and to provide the mechanisms for conducting financial transactions
over the Internet.
Through a technology transfer agreement with the University of British Columbia,
ACT is licensing a billing module that has been developed at UBC. Work is
currently underway to integrate this module into the Cinemage framework,
creating a first version of the NetXchequer.
When completed, the NetXchequer will provide the facilities to establish
subscription accounts through which people can access the resources provided
by the VISEUM project. Revenue from these accounts will be shared by the
institutions providing the information and by ACT as provider of the service.
