On August 26 the Honourable Jon Gerrard PC, MP, Secretary of State for
Science, Research and Development and Dr. Andrew K. Bjerring, President
& CEO, CANARIE Inc., announced the launching of the 1996 competition
of CANARIE's Technology and Applications Development (TAD) Program. The
TAD program is a shared-cost funding program with the goal of stimulating
innovative research and development projects that lead to next generation
network products and applications for the marketplace. The total budget
for the 1996 competition is approximately $15 million.
Preliminary applications must be received by CANARIE October 22, 1996. A
shortlist of projects for which full business plans will be requested will
be issued in mid-December. A final selection of the 1996 competition is
expected in March of 1997.
ACT, in partnership with Newbridge Networks Corporation, will be submitting
a proposal to the TAD competion.
Established in 1993 with support from Industry Canada, CANARIE is a not-for-profit
industry-led corporation with over 140 fee-paying members and a 21 Member
Board representing private and public sectors. Total investment (1993 to
1999) is estimated at over $400 million, including $104.5 million contributed
by the Federal Government.
