Cinemage Releases Print & Ship Service
Vancouver, BC (30 January 06) - Cinemage Corporation is pleased to announce the release of its Print & Ship service for reproductions from its digital collection of fine and decorative art. The service represents a significant shift in the Company's business model to direct retail marketing of its Giclee reproductions, while retaining the benefits of producing reproductions one at a time, on demand, in the size desired and on a choice of media to suit the style of the image and the taste of the buyer.
"Customers can purchase our Giclee reproductions through a special Retail Order Entry computer in a participating commercial gallery or gift shop, or can make the purchase directly on the Internet from the convenience of their home", said Froese. "Pieces are then printed at the Company's facilities and shipped in a tube by courier, or are printed at Cinemage Authorized Regional PrintCentres and delivered locally."
Reproductions were previously only available through Dealers, who produced custom prints at the request of a buyer.
The Print & Ship function will also enhance market opportunities for the Company's kiosk product jointly developed with Hewlett Packard (Canada) Co. Designed to bring on-demand printing capabilities to museums and art galleries in Canada, visitors to museums and galleries equipped with the new Cinemage/HP kiosks will be able to purchase high-quality reproductions of works from the gallery's collection, and either have them printed at the gallery for immediate pick-up, or printed domestically and shipped to their home which for many tourists avoids the inconvenience of carrying the piece on air transport and checking the piece through customs.
"The maximum reproduction size available is determined by the number of pixels in the digital representation of the original", said Froese. "Our large format printers can produce works up to 42inches wide and many feet long, on canvas, heavy Fine Art paper or photographic papers."
First announced by News Release on May 2, 2005 the kiosk Prints-On-Demand system consist of a third party enclosure and touch screen, an HP large-format printer, and an HP server, which hosts the Cinemage Gallery Prints-On-Demand software system.
To kick the product development off, HP contributed the HP Designjet 5500ps large format printer, which features ultraviolet-resistant pigment based inks for long image life, and a touch screen kiosk enclosure to Cinemage. These products are now fully integrated with the Cinemage Software Engine to form a working model of the final product, which was successfully demonstrated at Graphics Canada in Toronto last November.
Cinemage expects that the kiosks will open up a new source of revenue for museums and galleries, most of which have a Gift Shop with a limited collection of pre-printed lithographic works. The Cinemage/HP kiosks will open up a gallery's entire collection for reproduction. In addition to accessing images in the client's local gallery, images from a central Cinemage image bank may also be available for purchase across the Internet for printing at a local kiosk.
