ACT Joins CANARIE Testbed

ACT`s connection to Rnet, the BC high-speed testbed network, opens national collaborative development opportunities. Rnet is just one component of CANARIE`s national high-speed testbed that includes WURCnet in the prairie provinces and OCRInet in Ontario. (CANARIE is the Canadian Network for the Advancement of Research, Industry and Education.) This national testbed network is an integral part of the Canadian Information Highway and is making applications such as ACT`s museum project possible. With the recently completed fibre-optic link to Europe (described elsewhere in this issue) CANARIE is pursuing linking its testbed into research networks in Europe.

Other members of the Rnet testbed include UBC, SFU, MPR Teltech, BC Systems Corp., and the major Vancouver hospitals.
