Cinemage Kiosk System

At the request of our Italian partners, Intelfin, work has been undertaken to adapt the Cinemage system to work in what is called a Kiosk mode.

A kiosk works somewhat differently than the current implementation of the system. Typically a kiosk is located in a public location and is accessed via a touch-screen interface rather than a keyboard. Access is not controlled through user accounts, as in the current system, but through some other mechanism such as a smart-card. (Smart cards, quite popular in Europe, work like telephone calling cards. The user inserts the card to activate the kiosk and money is deducted from the card.) As you might image, a kiosk application poses certain challenges. Since the kiosk typically does not have a keyboard but rather uses a touch screen, movement through the material must be accomplished through touchable buttons on the screen. The material itself must also be organized so that it is easy to navigate, moving back and forth to find the required information.

In order to test the concept we created a prototype of a “Cities of the World” information database, to include tourist information about various cities. The prototype contains Vancouver tourist information.
