VISEUM Project
The VISEUM project, Virtual Museums International, was officially launched
last September. This project links Museums in England and France with institutions
in Vancouver via high-speed network links that will allow the sharing of
digital images from the collections of the participants. The first part
of the project has involved developing detailed specifications for the software
to be produced. Three of the project partners (ACT, The National Gallery
in London, and the LMRF -- the research arm of the Louvre -- in Paris) have
been developing software for displaying and manipulating digital images.
The next major step in the VISEUM project will be to do some preliminary
testing of the network links between Canada and Europe. Establishing high-speed
networking links between the partners is a major aspect of the project.
Initial testing is planned for late February.
All projects funded by the European Commission are audited yearly in January.
The VISEUM project got a very favourable review at its audit which was completed
at the end of January. The project is scheduled for completion in February
of 1998. In mid-March ACT will be hosting a VISEUM project meeting in Vancouver.
